That defines my Dad. I have always amazed at his ability to get things done for his children, even when he is in a worst crisis. My dad is far more practical than I, with guts and wisdom on his side. He started raising me in a single room (which had got a new fan only after I was born), an old tape-recorder with old song cassettes, Sivaji Ganesan movies, discipline, unconditional love, best possible education, and plenty of trial and error.
My dad is one of those guys who commands respect from all of the family members, but he has always been seen as a strict person by them all the time. He is humble, but very confident. He is well-seasoned, traveled, weathered by work. I remember so many things about growing up as a child of my father, a few things - though small and trivial, remain fresh in memory.
- He got my name painted on his new cycle when I was 5 years old.
- I have never seen him take new cloths for the festivals, He has always sacrificed his to get better ones for his kids.
- He put me in a very good school even when we weren't doing that good financially and I wasn't a bright kid either.
- Everyday morning he would play old songs which he had collected over years and those songs are still fresh in memory, Its like those lyrics are carved in my gray cells :)
- He was frugal when it came to spending, though It doesn't go well with a kid it was that thing which made me realize how much pain He has taken in bringing us up to this level.
- He was the one who would comb my hair (till 9th class). I thought it was a bad idea as it didn't look good, but it went on to be that way.. never changed it since. :)
- When we were building our house he would take me to the site almost everyday.. He named the house after me.
- There are simply too many...........
Dad let me learn the value of money but would help if there was a need, though only to make me walk instead of crawl in that situation. Dad let me realize that work is hard and schooling and education is very essential to build character. He has always been very supportive of decisions with a good dose of common sense though. There is no end for this list…
For me Dad always emphasized dependability and commitment to the purpose of your life. Now we are in far better position that what we were in, but when I look back at the path we had come I'm awed at the amount of effort my Dad has taken to make this family what it is now.
My Dad, the greatest man on Earth, my Hero and me being a person who is not sure if God exists I see my Dad as a reflection of God as I'm made in His image - at least I had to partly believe that all humans are reflection of God :)
You are the best Dad ! Keep inspiring us..

Awesome post! Could feel the awe, pride and respect you feel for your dad! Isn't it great to look upon our own parents and dear ones for inspiration and role models? :) A whole lot of people would be able to identify with this post of yours! That's wot parents are like. Always building the family and making things cozy for us to live well, grow and enjoy, while sacrificing so many things for themselves!
@Meenakshi - Thanks :).. yeah I agree that most of them can identify themselves with this post.. Ans yes ppl realize that huge role models are there among your dear ones.. but still they search for one for a very long time..

@Prabhu: I owe so much more.. true that you would need a separate portal to re-live all those memorable things he has done for me over the years. Though all of those might not be open for public audience :)
